Test Anxiety
Ever since I took the U.S. military's ASVAB test in high school--on which I posted a miserable mechanical aptitude score--I've suspected that my gifts for working on motorcycles are limited. And the countless mistakes I've made while working on my bikes since then have seemed to confirm this suspicion.
But when I saw this online mechanical aptitude test, I felt like I had a chance to redeem myself. Was it possible that I just had an off day when I took the ASVAB, and that I am not as ill-prepared for mechanical duties as I once thought? So I dove in and took the test, trying my absolute hardest to rebuild my opinion of myself.
After a good forty minutes of mental strain, I submitted my answers and found that I had not passed the test. I correctly answered 72 percent of the questions, and the passing grade for this test was an 80 percent. Worse yet, the average score registered on this test by its previous takers was an 85. I was disappointed, but since I had not really understood many of the questions, and since I have no intentions of pursuing a career as a mechanic, I decided I could live with the result. It easily bested my ASVAB performance, at least.
So if you've got a few minutes to burn and want to know a little more about your mechanical aptitude, I recommend giving it a go, and maybe even sharing your results here or on the message board.
But don't go frontin' if you beat my lowly 72, because I'm willing to bet I would destroy you on any reading comprehension or vocabulary test out there. Respect.
