Frisco Time

AMA Supercross doesn't get any closer to us than it will this Saturday night in San Francisco, so now seems like a good time to wish extra luck to our two local racers in the SX series, Nate Tiearney and Adam Conway (952).

Nate is coming off two consecutive appearances in the 450 night show, while Adam is still looking for his first night-show appearance in the 250 West class. But considering that San Fran is their local race, and there will surely be more locals than ever pulling for them in the stands, it seems like the time is right for Adam to make the show, and for Nate to make a main-event appearance.

Watch for the live results from qualifying to appear all day Saturday on http://www.amasupercross.com/ and for the night show to start around 7 p.m. Click the live results tab to watch the lap times as they come in, and be sure to shout encouragement for our locals at your computer. It may not help, but it definitely won't hurt.

Race Notes: Anaheim 2

So there was no need for the worry over rain for Anaheim 2--the Dirt Wurx crew seems to have improved its rain-management skills a lot lately, as the track appeared in beautiful shape for the entire evening.

As for the riders, here's the rundown:

Dungey Wow--the man has really done his homework. Finishing 2-1-1 in the first three races of the year, Dungey has made one of the most impressive full-time debuts in the history of the big-bike class. At A2, he was methodical, measured and fast. Very fast.

Hill For a rider who had a slacker reputation as recently as last year, Hill has pulled things together nicely. His passes on Stewart in both the heat race and the main were impressive, and he held things together well for all 20 laps in the final, though Dungey did manage to squeak away in the closing laps.

Stewart A class performance by a man who was obviously hurting. It is a testament to Stewart's speed that he manages to contend for race wins even when he is injured. Look for him regain his usual loose style once that wrist heals.

Windham and Short Both turned in quietly solid performances, with Short turning in a not-far-off-the-pace fourth and Windham moving from 13th on the first lap to fifth at the finish.

Villopoto Still not quite at full speed, it seems. A seventh is nothing to be ashamed of, but his second-place last week showed what he's capable of.

Weimer The 250-class equivalent of Dungey. Another rider who used his off-season wisely.

The series moves to its closest venue to northern Nevada, San Francisco, next Saturday. Check out the AMA Supercross web site for full results from the series.

Format changes and the winter blues

Because I've found it increasingly hard to write the in-depth essays and analysis I'm accustomed to writing on this blog--time and inspiration haven't been on my side lately--I thought I'd try to shake things up a bit by writing more entries that are shorter and punchier. Small bites of motocross content, if you will. I'm sure I'll still bash out the lengthy stuff now and then, but for those in-between times, look for bits and pieces, like today's entry, to fill the gap.

Now then.

Lately it's occurred to me again that bad winter weather has subtle effects on me--some bad and some good. Because the snow and cold has kept me from riding as much as I should, I have energy that goes in different directions. Sometimes, for example, it results in me detailing my truck especially well. And other times, it just results in me spending money. Witness my new engine-less bike:

True, it's useless at the moment, but when the snow melts at Northstar, there will be good times.

Have any winter habits (or vices) that arise from not riding enough? Share them here or on the message board.
