After months of anticipation and discussion--much of which occurred on our message board--Liv Fast at Exit 28 had its soft opening Wednesday for local industry people and friends of the track. The bad news? Your name had to be on the list to ride. The good news? Running a local web site apparently qualifies one as a industry person.
OK, the second part was only good news for me. But I wasn't about to squander that good fortune, so I took my bike, dad and daughters out to Exit 28 for a few pre-work laps on the new layout, which lies in the shadow of the foothills east of Sparks, and yes: right next door to the Wild Horse Resort and Cabaret.
Much was made of the dirt at Exit 28 while it was being built, and I could see why while I was scouting the track: the surface was pretty much rock-free, and it had shaped up nicely in many of the turns. Once on the bike, I found the layout flowed well throughout most of the track and featured plenty of safe jumps, and I even noticed a few turns developing a Fernley-type sand berm or two. Once I learned the course, I found myself enjoying every lap, and feeling a little down when the time came for me to leave for work.
Exit 28 will have its public opening this weekend with practices on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until dusk for $20 per practice.
Until then, satiate yourself with these photos from the soft opening:
Nothing like an untouched track.

After not riding for a couple of weeks, I was ready to roll.

Milling in the pits.

The jumps were mellow yet fun.
