Carson City, Nevada; June 3, 2005

As competitive as the Pro classes were at round two of the MX West Summer Nights Series, Tony Evans and J.L. Bitz (273) left no doubters to their dominance as they respectively topped the 250cc and 125cc divisions.

Evans put in wire-to-wire victories in each 250cc moto despite recently coming off shoulder surgery. Evans found the formula that served him well throughout the night in the first 250cc moto by snagging the lead off the line and controlling the pace on the tight Carson circuit. As the rest of the pack struggled to move forward on a track that had received a thorough watering just prior to the start, Evans stayed clean out front to take the win.

Evans snapped to the lead again in the second moto and resumed his routine at the front to complete the victory. Bitz, who brought home second in the first moto, struggled to fight past Tommy Jean throughout the race, but Jean held his line and scored second on the night via a 3-2 posting. Bitz claimed third overall with a 2-3.

“It was a tight track tonight,” Evans said. “So it was hard for people to get around you if you rode smooth. That made it good if you could get a good start. The only person who could really have beat me tonight (after starting well) would have been myself.”

Bitz avoided the obstacles he found in the 250cc class in the 125cc race, however, as he rode to his own 1-1 score. Like Evans in the 250cc class, Bitz jumped out to an early lead in each moto and from there set the pace. Bitz was followed by freestyle star Matt Buyten in the first moto, who put an impressive ride through the pack to reach second, and by Jean in the second race. Jean took second overall with a 3-2 score while problems in the second moto for Buyten left him with fifth on the night. Evans’ outing in the 125cc class ended early when his Honda’s clutch lost traction in the first moto.

The evening also featured some double-class winners. They included Corwin McIntosh, who scored the 65cc Junior and Super 65cc victories; Ryan Eager, who claimed division one of the 125cc Intermediate class and division one of the Schoolboy contest; and Dakota May, who topped the 85cc Intermediate race and then brought out his Supermini to put in an impressive ride against the full-size bikes to take home the 125cc Junior division two victory.
